Activities Assistant

The Napier District Masonic Trust is proud to have assisted the aged in our community for the past 60 years and will continue to plan and provide housing and care for our elderly in the coming years.

We have an excellent reputation for providing quality residential aged care and affordable retirement village accommodation. We believe every elderly person has a right to a place they can call home regardless of age, stage, means or needs. We are a community built on love, respect and care for our residents, their families and each other.

About Our Role:

This is a creative, hands‑on position supporting the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of our residents. You’ll work closely with our dedicated Activities & Lifestyle team to help deliver meaningful, engaging activities that uplift and connect our residents.

This is a part-time position working 12‑hour‑per‑week, Tuesday to Friday, 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

From helping set up for an art session, assisting with baking, to supporting residents on a scenic van outing, you’ll help create moments that spark joy, confidence, and connection, giving residents opportunities for new experiences and a refreshing change of scene. You’ll also ensure schedules, records, and documentation relating to programme delivery are accurately maintained.

About You:

You’re someone who brings compassion, patience, and genuine warmth into every interaction. You will ideally have experience in the aged care or health industry and feel confident supporting people with diverse needs and backgrounds.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong communication skills that help you build trust with residents, families/whānau, and colleagues.
  • Creativity, fun and the ability to engage residents at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment alongside a multidisciplinary team.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence to assist with resident van outings in the community.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Most importantly, you bring a respectful, friendly manner and a commitment to creating positive experiences that support our residents’ wellbeing every day.

What We Offer:

  • Purpose with heart – play a key role in supporting the wellbeing and dignity of our elderly community.
  • A caring culture – be part of a supportive team built on aroha, respect and genuine connection.
  • Great rewards – a competitive remuneration package including health insurance and additional staff benefits.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an empathetic and friendly individual who wants to have a positive impact on our elderly residents’ lives.
